buy a candle, plant a tree

76110+ planted

we’ve partnered with veritree so that with every full size candle purchase, a tree will be planted across the globe. tree planting to us is a great way not only to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases and improve the environment, but also to neutralise the impact of our own emissions.

our tree planting journey

our tree planting journey

our goal is to plant 100,000 trees by 2024

when mala was founded in late 2019, we started our journey with nature based solutions by planting 36,210 trees in Kenya. after hearing feedback from our community for more planting transparency, we decided to partner with Veritree in 2022 for further verification and data.

veritree is a restoration platform that uses blockchain-based systems to connect us directly with the impact of our tree planting efforts. by using their systems, trees planted by us are monitored for accurate data & impact analysis.

veritree was built to solve many of the problems facing tree planting & nature-based solutions across the globe:
~ double counting
~ poor monitoring for permanence
~ inability to collect accurate local data

by partnering with veritree, we now have a platform to ensure there is permanence and diversification of planting (up to 5 years) with accountability, along with long-term tracking of our growing forest and its annual CO₂ impact!

why is it important to plant trees?

benefits of trees

a single tree can...

~ provide enough oxygen for a family of four to breathe and reduce peak summer temperatures by 2-9 degrees fahrenheit.

~ help settle out and trap dust, pollen and smoke from the air.

~ create an ecosystem to provide habitat and food for birds and other animals.

~ absorb carbon dioxide and potentially harmful gasses, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, from the air and release oxygen.

~ offset an average of one ton of carbon over its lifetime.

forests are responsible for absorbing a quarter of human-induced carbon emissions.

carbon pollution

carbon pollution is a serious threat to the earth’s climate. trees are one major natural way of cleaning carbon pollution from our air, sequestering it in the ground and helping to fight climate change.

mass production

because of mass production and consumption of resources, every 48 hours, we lose a forest the size of NYC.
